Take a Tour: Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse

It’s breast cancer awareness month, and the donation opportunities abound! One creative endeavor funding breast cancer research is the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse, an annual event that does far more than raise awareness. Since 1998, the WBCS has donated over $5.8 million to the Medical College of Wisconsin for breast and prostate cancer research. The board of directors actively selects three promising studies and presents them with seed grants to fund their all-important goals.

To raise funds, the WBCS chooses a Wisconsin home – donated by a generous homeowner – to transform. They select talented Milwaukee-area designers to change the home into a showhouse, and invite the public to purchase tickets. Visitors view the decor and attend lectures on home-related topics presented by professionals: architects, color consultants, and other relevant presenters. The showhouse is open for two weeks every June, with weeks of hard work leading up to the display.

This year’s Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse was a striking, sprawling home on breathtaking Lake Oconomowoc owned by Dan and Mary Druml. The Drumls’ 8,100-square-foot five-bedroom summer home (which they plan on making their main home once their children graduate high school) was completely redecorated – paint, furnishings, accents, every detail accounted for – by talented designers. Dan, whose sister and mother-in-law are breast cancer survivors, is thrilled with the transformation and the charitable cause behind it.

Designers worked tirelessly to incorporate the gorgeous lake views and lakeside living vibe in their creation of the showhouse.
