Color of the Month: Decorating with Mustard

Yes, mustard… don’t turn away yet! It’s not a beautiful-sounding color like lilac or coral or buttercup, but mustard – when used properly – can truly be a great shade for decorating your home. Like other yellows, it pairs well with neutrals, especially grays and white, as well as other citrusy colors (orange, green) and blues. To lower the commitment factor (and mustard is a BIG commitment), try incorporating it in smaller and/or more temporary ways.

Skeptical? Read on and check out the pictures – they’re sure to change your mind.

We’re not talking drab Dijon mustard, but vibrant, zesty yellow mustard. Pantone has jumped on the mustard wagon (distantly related to the turnip truck) with Spicy Mustard in their Fall 2016 color report, calling the vibrant shade unexpected and unusual.”

Need more proof? The largest furniture trade show in the world, Salone de Mobile in Milan, prominently displayed furnishings in mustard yellow, a vivid shade used by many high-class companies to attract visitors.

Now that you’re convinced, it’s time to get a taste of this up-and-coming trendy shade.

Because mustard is a food shade, and a warm one at that, it’s perfect for kitchens and dining areas:
