Recently I completed designing a kitchen for Mr. L. a gentleman who unbelievable serves six full meals a day from his home! Starting early in the morning with a three course breakfast he moves on to a light mid-morning snack followed by a full lunch. Not long after lunch he has tea and homemade biscuits and in the evening serves a four course dinner. Dinner always concludes with a game of pool or chess with friends or business associates, after which he serves exotic cheeses and fine French wine. He employs a chef for the three main meals but enjoys cooking and baking all the refreshments himself. Since Mr. L. spends a significant amount of time in the kitchen his dream was to have a room that combined function and beauty equally and would be impressive to the many guest he constantly hosts.
I wanted to create a kitchen that was much more than just a place to prepare meals; I needed to achieve the look, the experience and the emotion of a beautiful, well-planned environment.I wanted a room Mr. L. would love to spend time in, a kitchen that reflected his taste and fit his demanding lifestyle and daily needs.
Designing the gourmand’s kitchen was a challenging and really fun task. I want to share with you a few of the fabulous kitchen supplies we included to enhance his daily culinary experience.
The Pot Rack:
A pot rack is a great creation because it serves three significant functions: Its decorative, adds space, and serves as the perfect on hand solution for often used pots and utensils. The grated surface also works as a convenient place for cooling bread and pastries. Hung over the island it adds a really professional and voguish look to the entire kitchen and is a wonderful way to show off the beauty of Mr. L.’s cookware. This lighted pot rack is well designed and eye catching so it serves yet another function as the focal point of the kitchen.
Kitchen Sinks:
Mr. L. leans toward the contemporary, modern style so we did appliances in brushed nickel stainless steel which is a beautiful corrosion resistant and high temperature proof steel. He needed three kitchen sinks for his counter, island and peninsula each serving a different purpose.
On the most lengthy counter we put in this high quality, large, three bowled, extra deep gourmet kitchen sink which is fabulous for hand washing large amounts of dishes and utensils, especially the delicate Limoges porcelain china set he inherited from his French grandmother.
The island is his favorite place to prepare food because it’s accessible from all the surrounding counters and is very spacious. We put a double bowled kitchen sink with an attached ribbed work area and cutting board. Designed for a chef the three-in-one combination makes preparing complicated recipes easier and condenses mess.
_________________________________________________ The peninsula doubles as a breakfast nook so this attractively designed bar sink was the perfect look. It’s the ideal size for hand washing and is just right for coffee mugs.
Pot Fillers:
Mr. L. finds the 360 degree rotating pot fillers installed behind each of his ovens to be the most useful item in his “fabuleux” new kitchen. The faucets conveniently extend 18 inches via their double joint extendable arm becoming a real time and energy saver. He is looking forward to the winter when he will cook many delicious soups without having to carry his large pots back and forth from the sink.

Together Mr. L. and I achieved our goal of a totally chic and totally functional kitchen. As he says so eloquently in French “Son tous j’ai jamais voulu et plus”, it’s all he ever wanted and more!
