Solid surface (often known by brand name Corian) is becoming an increasingly popular choice in kitchen counters. It’s a synthetically manufactured material, made of a blend of acrylic or polyester resins, powdered fillers and pigments, and can be formed into practically any shape and size.
Its kitchen counter popularity is due to its invisible seams, nonporous and sanitary surface, and easy integration of sinks and backsplashes. Damage to solid surface counters (it’s not knife- or heat-resistant and may dent or mar) may be reversed with a simple sanding and polishing; in cases of more severe damage, entire sections of counter may be removed and replaced seamlessly. Plus, it’s available in hundreds of colors and edges to mimic various counter materials.
But solid surface use is not limited to kitchen countertops – they’re popular in bathrooms too, and for good reason.
Solid surface tubs, sinks, vanity tops, and even full shower walls are nonporous, stain-, mildew-, and mold-resistant, and easy to clean.
The renewable properties of solid surface make solid surface products look brand new for years with minimal maintenance.
And, of course, the smooth surface beautifully complements bathrooms of all styles.
In this bathroom, the tub surround and shower bench are made of the same solid surface, giving the room a smoothly unified appearance.
