Classic Color Combo: Neapolitan

Whatever your favorite flavor of ice cream is, chances are you’ll find them in a carton of Neapolitan. Named for the common assumption that the tri-color treat originated from Naples, Italy, Neapolitan is made up of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, typically laid in side-by-side blocks.

Now, when most people think about home decorating and color schemes, ice cream colors are not high on the list of favorites. But that classic flavor has resulted in a classic color combo: pink, white, and brown.

It’s not just for little girls, and it doesn’t have to look like this:

When executed properly, Neapolitan can be sophisticated, soothing, and harmonious. Any combination of the colors – all three equally prominent, one main color with the other two accenting, as part of a larger color scheme, richer shades or softer hues – works well. And it’s not limited to chocolate and strawberry – and brown and pink count.

It works well in grown-up bedrooms (okay, and we can’t leave out a pretty-in-pink nursery):
