When Coral Reef – a bold blend of orange, red, and pink – was unveiled as Sherwin Williams’ Color of the Year, it was met with mixed reviews. Critics say it’s dated, reminiscent of the “salmon pink” of old, too loud, and likely to go out of style quickly. Supporters of Coral Reef love the fact that it’s neither pink nor peach nor orange, a vivid yet soothing shade that will add cheer to otherwise bland rooms and homes.

Like all bright colors, coral is well-suited to accents rather than entire rooms. Coral walls can be overpowering and simply “too much,” but in small doses – borders, tiles, doors, backsplashes, artwork, furniture, linens, accessories, or even accent walls – the surprisingly versatile hue breathes life into most color palettes and in every room in the house.
