Classic Color Combo: Red, White, and Blue

In honor of Independence Day, we’re celebrating – what else? – the iconic American flag. The bold combination of red (which stands for hardiness and valor), white (purity and innocence), and blue (vigilance, perseverance, and justice) is not exclusive to the USA – 36 countries worldwide have flags in the same colors, including Australia, Russia, and France – but we wear those colors proudly nonetheless.

Why shouldn’t our homes wear the same colors?

You can go beyond hanging a flag or bunting outside of your house on the appropriate holidays (or even year-round); home decor in red, white, and blue can satisfy the staunchest patriot as well as the most discerning decorator.

The combination is simultaneously bold and soothing, grounded yet exciting, fresh yet comfortingly familiar. The blue and white provide a neutral backdrop, while the red adds pizzazz. No need for stars and stripes; the hues alone will inspire your American pride. They work in every room (from the kitchen to the dining room to the bathroom and the bedroom) in every shade of blue and red, in every form (striped, patterned, textured, you name it) and in every style (modern, traditional, beach, contemporary, rustic…).

If you want to show your patriotism without liberally draping your home in flags, check out these red, white, and blue rooms for inspiration. They’re decked out in the colors you want, but subtly enough; no tackiness here!
