Noticed the squirrels squirreling away their acorns recently? Autumn is the perfect time to think about getting your home cozy and warm for the winter. One easy addition that will heat up your decor: pieces made of amber (or similarly-hued).

Amber is a semi-precious natural material, a gemstone formed from fossilized tree resin. Genuine amber is popular in jewelry and beads and is believed to have protective and healing attributes. Its orange-yellow color reflects the color of the fall leaves and automatically evokes visions of the aptly-named “amber glow” associated with homey, comfortable spaces.

Amber-hued lighting is the antidote to the sterile white lighting found in many modern homes; it’s welcoming, soft, and warm. And it’s not just for rustic homes (though it is perfect for a lodge-like space):
