How to Create a Custom Narrow Pullout Space

You know the spot. That maddeningly useless wasted space. Most likely, it’s in the kitchen – even the most custom kitchen can wind up with a vertical filler piece. But there are narrow nooks to be found throughout the home, and while they may seem annoyingly useless, with a little creativity they can become wonderfully practical.

A narrow pullout is an easy, typically cost-effective solution to small unused spaces. Think about all of those things that you have rattling around in full-sized drawers; imagine a tidy, well-proportioned storage space for them! Don’t fill that space with a decorative, camouflaged filler… use every inch of your space.

Narrow pullout drawers are most popular in the kitchen. The spice pullout is a common choice; just be careful not to keep heat-sensitive spices or oils next to an oven or stove. But depending on the size and location of your narrow space, you can fill it with other slim foods, bakeware and cookware (it’s perfect for cookie sheets), and other non-bulky kitchen essentials.

Of course, the kitchen isn’t the only place that suffers from useless narrow spaces. Put a narrow pullout into closets, bathrooms, and laundry rooms for storage of cleaning supplies, toiletries, hair dryers, trash cans, and accessories like scarves, belts, ties, and jewelry. The sky’s the limit!
