The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, known more commonly as the Sagrada Família, is a famous Roman Catholic church situated in Barcelona, Spain.
The church is the lifework of Antoni Gaudí a Catalan Architect. Gaudi became immersed in the building of the church in 1883 and devoted his life to it, until his death in 1926. At the time of his death (he was hit by a streetcar) less than a quarter of the Sagrada Família was finished.
When Gaudi took over the construction of the church he changed the project into his own architectural and engineering style- a queer yet beautiful mixture of Gothic and Art Nouveau shapes, columns and arches.
The temple is built using private donations so progress is slow. The completion date for the famous structure is in 2026.
