Air Force One Kitchen and a Little Inspiration

National Geographic had a feature on the Air Force One kitchen that aired some time ago. One of the things we found most interesting: the kitchen. If you were watching the show on mute, you’d think that this was a typical culinary kitchen. Chefs mill about garnishing dishes, rolling silverware in cloth napkins and the appliances are gourmet, professional grade. The kitchen is spacious and has an institutional stainless steel look. And then you see the list of coffee orders:  Pres. Bush- Black w/ Equal, Mrs. Bush – Skim w/ Equal, Sec. Rice – Strong decaf, cream and Equal on the side. And it becomes clear that this is no ordinary kitchen! Read more »

5 Famous Kitchens

Celebrities have kitchens, too. In shows like Road Rules, MTV Cribs, The Martha Stewart Show and movies like Speed Racer, the kitchen sinks and kitchen faucets often play a bit role. Below, we’ve highlighted a few notable kitchen sink and kitchen faucet appearances on the big and small screen.

Road Rules – Everything and The Kitchen Sink

rvkitchen3

This is a photo of the RV from MTV’s Road Rules 2007. It looks like they brought everything they needed along with them, including a microwave, a breadbox and a stainless steel dual-sink with separate hot and cold handles. While this sink was probably installed out of necessity (it isn’t easy doing plumbing for a vehicle!) you can get a similar dual handle look in your kitchen without wheels with a widespread kitchen faucet.

John Goodman’s California Kitchen

picture-1

This well lit kitchen boasts two kitchen sinks and faucets: one by the window for a pleasant vista while whoever washes John Goodman’s dishes cleans up and another sink on the island for convenient access for entertaining and bar prep. If you’re considering getting a similar bar faucet, check out the California Faucets Bar Faucet collection.

Oprah’s Hawaiian Paradise Kitchen

This brightly designed kitchen is located in Oprah Winfrey’s Hawaiian home. Featured in O Magazine, the kitchen faucet and sink in the island make for easy hosting for a friendly, social breakfast. The dual handles give the sink a traditional, symmetrical look, which you can achieve with a sink and faucet such as the Grohe Bridgeford High Profile Wideset.

Speed Racer Set

This retro kitchen appeared on the set of Speed Racer. Set and art direction was handled by Owen Paterson, who also worked on The Matrix. Here you see a nice tiled backsplash and a space-saving wall-mounted kitchen faucet. If you’re looking to save on counter space and hide plumbing, check out some of our wall-mount kitchen faucets.

The King’s Kitchen

This photo of Elvis Presley Graceland Kitchen was taken by superba_. The lighting and decor is definitely 70s. If we were to update the King’s breakfast nook, we could put in a single lever faucet or maybe a pull-out kitchen faucet. Of course, we wouldn’t want to mess with Elvis’ sense of style – he is The King after all.

Celebrity homes and TV kitchens have star power, but for your less famous home, the kitchen sink and kitchen faucet play starring roles. Whether you are complimenting your carefully composed decor or simply want to have the most convenient and efficient performance at your fingertips, choosing the ideal kitchen sinks and kitchen faucets is key.

3 Of the World’s Weirder Kitchens

Modern kitchens defy the norms of traditional design. Whether out of necessity or sheer manic inspiration, some kitchens end up looking like something from the future or an alternate universe. But in spite of their otherworldly design and their off-the-wall decor, they all feature practical kitchen faucets and kitchen sinks that perfectly compliment conventional and crazy kitchens alike.

Purple Paradise

The color scheme here may make you “grimace,” but you have to admit that the design ain’t bad. Sporting a very nice single lever kitchen faucet and a smaller prep kitchen sink on the island, a well-lit home for the bonsai and in-wall appliances, housetohome named this among its “Weird and wonderful kitchens.” For a similar single lever look, check out the Grohe Alira Dual Spray Pull Out. If you’re considering emulating the purple hue, as well, you may want to consult with your spouse (and sanity) first.

Torpedoes Away!

No, this isn’t a New York City apartment – it’s a submarine. This is definitely an environment where too many cooks in the kitchen could spoil the broth (we’re thinking about 2 very slim sailors about maxes it out). The use of a wall-mounted kitchen faucet with a stainless steel sink (counters and appliances and cabinets, too) is a testament to the efficient utility of both. Kitchen Piston

virs-kitchen-2

From Switzerland with – roundness? This KWC multifunctional integrated work station, features cylindrical design that almost guarantees you won’t bang your elbows on any sharp corners. With a culinary kitchen faucet and a prep kitchen sink, this highly modern kitchen just may work out. Whether you’re making the rounds with your island or simply want a bit more professional quality in your kitchen, you may also want to consider a culinary kitchen faucet.

There you have it – three of the weirder kitchens to ever feature some pretty practical kitchen sinks and kitchen faucets. But we aren’t calling these the weirdest kitchens – we’re reserving that distinction for odd kitchens yet to be discovered. How about you? Do you have a weird, innovative or funky kitchen? Send in your pictures and we’ll feature them here, and you’ll be entered to win a Boca Terry robe !!!
