Color of the Month: Decorating with Lilac

Yes, it’s a spring color, but who says you can’t celebrate spring in summer (or winter or fall, for that matter)? Lilac is a delicate, soft, soothing shade of purple that has many sworn purple-haters second-guessing their dislike of the color.

Lilac is a popular choice in girls’ bedrooms as a refreshing (and more mature) alternative to pink, but that doesn’t limit it to a frilly feminine hue. It pairs well with white, gray, and other neutrals as well as stronger shades like navy and black; it also complements other pastels, especially soft yellows, greens, and blues, and is the perfect softening shade opposite deeper purples. May be springy, but great for summer and year-round. L

The color is subtle enough for allover use but makes a nice accent color in all forms and styles, as well as every room throughout the house.
