HGTV Divine Design with Candice Olson Takes on Modern Bathroom Design

candice-olson

You might recognize Candice Olson from Divine Design, the hit interior design show on HGTV and W Network. In the span of this short half hour show, Candice transforms problematic rooms into dramatically decorated spaces that exude style and artistry.

Olson was born, raised and educated in Canada, where she attended the highly regarded School of Interior Design at Ryerson University, which counts  international award-winning designers such as George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg among its alumni.

Olson begins each show by surveying the room and identifying the issues that need to be addressed. Then she carefully lays out her inspiration and vision in a way that’s both loftily professional and accessible to viewers and the homeowners. The lesson: always have a plan. When composing your bathroom to bring continuity and mood to your home, attention to detail is absolutely imperative – from the wattage in the bathroom lighting to the finish on the bathroom accessories. Take a look at some of these notable Candice Olson bathroom designs to see what we mean.

The lighting in this earthy, yet bright bathroom goes a long ways. The wall sconce fixtures near the bathroom vanity bring out the character in the design and decor and provide ideal lighting for grooming and applying makeup. The rich wood tones are a natural counterpoint to the modern low-profile vessel sink and updated bath tub.

The bathroom accessories really transform this space into the lap of luxury. Notice the towel warmers on the back wall, which keep towels, bath robes and hand towels warm, fresh and toasty. The bathtub caddy with book rack and the cushy bath tub pillow make a compelling case for kicking back and relaxing after a long work week.

This bathroom certainly doesn’t skimp on the decorative flourishes – but it’s by no means cluttered, either. The armoire in the corner is likely where the usual bathroom sundries are stashed – but if you’re interested in retaining the smooth, spacious look of an expansive mirror but don’t have the room for a large bathroom vanity for storage, consider Robern Uplift Mirrored Medicine Cabinet, which provides ample storage with surprising space-efficiency.

Speaking of smaller spaces that still pull of Candice Olson’s distinctive style, check out this cozy bathroom. Dual vessel sinks free up counter space and add a decorative touch while the flowers and soap dispenser add just a touch of color. This bathroom may be tight, but Candice designed the space with enough efficiency to allow a couple to get ready for the day side-by-side. Check out some of our double-basin bathroom vanities if you’ve been looking a way to share the bathroom with your mate without fighting over the sink.

This urban loft also does a deft job of packing tons of style and composure into a small space. In spite of sharing a floor plan, the bathroom distinguishes itself from the master bedroom without making this seem like an efficiency apartment. Again, notice Candice’s attention to perfect bathroom lighting and fondness for wood bathroom vanities. This bathroom sink and vanity are slightly more understated, but they certainly add elegance to this relatively modest bathroom. Notice the curtain that pulls across to add some privacy while showering (thanks to a custom shower rod) while the toilet is tucked away in a separate room down the hall.

This distinctly modern bathroom has clean lines and plenty of metallic finishes for a clean, brilliant look. The bathroom sink is low profile and functional, with the towel bars integrated right into its design for easy access (no more wet hands dripping on the floor as you shuffle over towards the towel rack) and the bath tub is located in the sanctuary-like annex.
