Shoppers Guide to Jacuzzis, Air Tubs and Whilrpools Part 1

air-tubSo you’ve decided that you want to kick back, relax and melt away all the workaday stress from your life in the comfort of your own home spa. Good – you deserve it. But that means you are about to invest in a whirlpool or air tub. Because of the meteoric rise in popularity of whirlpools, air tubs and spas, you are faced with a vast array of choices when shopping for a tub. In order to avoid making a regretful decision, be sure to follow these crucial steps.

1. Understand the differences between whirlpools, Jacuzzis and air tubs.

The first step is to get the terminology down. In common parlance, the words Jacuzzi, air tub and whirlpool are used almost interchangeably. But when you search these words all have significantly different meanings.

A whirlpool is a tub that utilizes the water in the tub, sucking the water in and shooting it out through its jets for hydrotherapy. These get the name “whirlpool” because the water sometimes flows in a circular motion.

An air tub, on the other hand, uses air jets to shoot millions of tiny bubbles through the water. The actual tub looks the same as a whirlpool.

A combo tub, Air and whirlpool tub, gives you the choice to switch between using air or water to create the bubbles.

Jacuzzi, on the other hand, is neither and both. Jacuzzi is a brand name – in fact, it’s a family name belonging to the brothers who founded the company that pioneered modern bathtub technology. When purchasing a Jacuzzi tub you have the option of choosing between a whirlpool, Air-tub or combo. So don’t search for a Jacuzzi unless that’s exactly what you want! Doing so would be akin to asking for a Pepsi when you want a Coke.

  1. Some of those tubs look fantastic! I’ve always wanted to own one, maybe it’s time to take the plunge, pardon the pun.
