Why choose copper as a kitchen material? While many assume that copper is fragile and unsuitable for heavy use, they’d be wrong – copper is one of the most durable materials available for kitchen fixtures. Not only is it beautiful, it’s also inherently antimicrobial as well as recyclable and eco-friendly. While smooth copper can be prone to denting and scratching, hammered copper effectively conceals damage.
Copper will naturally develop a patina over time, which means that the color will deepen as it ages and often “heals” itself when scratched. It can require more maintenance than other materials – regular waxing and special cleaners are required on some products – but it is fairly undemanding and boasts an unusually long lifespan.
While copper is largely traditional and used in rustic and country kitchens, different finishes work well in modern kitchens as well. The timeless material is incredibly versatile throughout the entire kitchen.
