The Ahwahnee Hotel, built in 1925, is the historical hotel of Yosemite National Park. The hotel is listed as #26 of Americas Favorite Architecture. It was designed by architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood, known as being the architect for many famous hotels, with interior design headed by Professor Arthur Upham Pope and Dr. Phyllis Ackerman. The hotel is built on the site of what was once a village of the native Miwoks.

The Ahwahnee Hotel’s location is absolutely stunning with incredible views of the Yosemite icons such as Half Dome, Glacier Point and Yosemite Falls. The beautifully rustic hotel is a major tourist attraction and has been declared a National Historic Landmark. The Hotel is constructed from stone, concrete, wood and glass which camouflage harmoniously into the mountains surrounding it. Created from 5,000 tons of rough-cut granite, 1,000 tons of steel and 30,000 feet of timber this hotel was built to last.

An elegant mix of history, nature and architecture are what make the Ahwahnee Hotel a fitting place to lodge for visiting dignitaries and famous individuals. The beautiful edifice uniquely combines Art Deco, Native American and Middle Eastern configurations. Distinctive designs are seen in the elegant stained glass, huge stone fireplaces, hand-stenciled beams and rich tapestries.

The hotel has a great lounge, 77′ by 51′ with a 24′ ceiling, used as a place to relax for visiting couples and families. The solarium, filled with natural light an indoor fountain and lush greenery, offers amazing views of the magnificent Glacier Point. The winter club room, displaying floor to ceiling cases of sport themed objects and intriguing photographs, is a great place to cozy up in the winter. And the spectacular Mural Room, highlighting Yosemite’s flora and fauna, is the ideal setting for relaxation or entertaining. The 150,000 square-foot hotel has 99 guest rooms and 24 cottages which are usually occupied by queens, president and the like.
